How to Decopatch!

Interiors and Crafts

Here is my little tutorial on how to decopatch.

To find out more about what decopatch is click here.

Things you will need.

  • An object to decorate
  • Decopatch Papers
  • Decopatch Glue or PVA Glue
  • Decopatch Brushes
  • Decopatch Clear Varnish to finish

Step 1

Choose what item you would like to decorate using decopatch papers. Pretty much anything can be decopatched. Ive chosen to use an old wine bottle but you can purchase ready made paper mache items in a variety of different shapes from hearts to even a dinosaur.

Step 2

Pick your design. You can use plain or patterned papers and you can mix and match your designs depending on the finished look you want to achieve. Its is important that you use the proper “decopatch” papers, they are more durable and won’t rip when you put the glue on. Normal papers tend to tear when they get…

Who needs real candles!!

So my new favourite thing at the moment is LED flickering Tea Lights.

There’s no flame and no smoke which makes them a perfect and safe alternative to candles and tea lights.

The led tea lights shown below can be found at Hearts and Home and are only £3.95 for a pack of 4.

Here is an example of the LED lights being used in a cute tea light holder also available at Hearts and Home for only £7.99

Let me know what you think and I’d love to see some other designs of LED candles.

Thank you

Don’t Waste a Pallet!

This was my most recent project. I managed to get hold of an old delivery pallet and decided to use it as a display idea for my Hearts and Home items.

Firstly I sanded it down to get rid of all the rough edges to avoid splinters.

I then gave it a coat of paint in an “antique cream”. Just one coat and no fancy paint, just a cheap matt coloured paint.

I then fixed some little hooks (you could use nails) evenly across the panels of wood. It made a perfect display at a village fete that I did at the weekend.

Pallets have many more uses. They could be used as display shelving, you could even put it in your garden and plant flowers or veg in between the rows.

Let me know what you think, thanks for taking the time to read.

Time To Get In The Garden!

As we all know the sun doesn’t usually hang around for long in this country, So we have to make the most of it.

Here are some garden planters, vintage and rustic wooden pots and quirky little ceramic pots.

My favourite is this one, it comes complete with a black chalk board on the side. Its just perfect for remembering what you have planted. If your anything like me you don’t have a clue about plants and you just pick the ones that look pretty, but if someone asks you what you’ve planted well … who knows right?

Problems solved with this pot 🙂

This pot is a little bit different, a ceramic pot in the style of a 2 drawer chest. Printed with a bohemian style pattern.

This one has a French feel, rustic double wooden planters with  French writing on the side.

I’m stocking up on pots and plants ready to have a beautiful floral garden this summer. You can also reuse old tubs, crates and pallets to plant different herbs, vegetables and pretty flowers.

Thank you for reading, now enjoy the sun before it disappears again.

Remove this from your Bucket List, NOW

This is really worth a read everybody. We need to protect these amazing animals and stop things like this happening.

LarrissaHuggard

Plenty of my closest friends, family and Facebook friends have put up awesome pictures of their awesome holidays in the awesome continent of Asia. I myself have not got there yet and until this week one of the major things to do on my bucket list was ride and bathe an Elephant.

Now before you get defensive, it does look like an awesome and fun thing to do, because of course the Elephants are happy right, they’re tame so it means they were brought up this way, and everyone else has done it so it has to be fine! This sheep mentality of western tourists is to blame for the increasing amount of Asian elephants dying from over exhaustion, and maybe even depression.

I’m going to keep it short, because I imagine that by now, some people have clicked off this…

Solar Eclipse!

Here is my view of the Solar Eclipse at 9.25am this morning. This is a view from Dorset England, it  was bit cloudy but you can still see it pretty clear.

This photo was taken through a mirror to avoid looking directly in to the sun.

Liebster Award and Nominations!

LiebsterAward-copy

Firstly I would like to say a massive thank you to Emily for giving me this award. Blogging is a new thing to me and to know that people are reading and are interested in what I write about is amazing.

The rules are simple and all you have to do is link the person who nominated you and answer the questions that they have given you. You then keep the award going by nominating some other bloggers that you like to answer your own questions.

So these are the questions that Emily has given me;

1. What job did you want to do ‘when you grow up?

I always wanted to be an astronaut, as time went by I realised it wasn’t such a good idea and decided an air hostess would be better. (that didn’t work out either).

2. What is your favourite quality in a personality?

Humor – Someone has to make me laugh : )

3. What motivates you to keep blogging?

The likes and lovely comments from other bloggers and followers. It means a lot to know people are interested and actually enjoy what your blogging about.

4. Three good things about yourself?

I’m enthusiastic and will try anything once.

I’m a good friend.

I can cook.

5. And now one bad? (Because we have to acknowledge the bad too.)

I say what I think – not always at the right time :-/

6. Dinner date with three people, any three people, who would you choose? Just not Rupert Grint because he’s at mine.

Bear Grylls, Dan Smith (from Bastille) and Daniel Crag (but he’d have to come as James Bond)

7. Something you’ve discovered about yourself through blogging?

I actually have more hobbies than I thought.

8. Most important thing in your life at the moment?

I have 2 – My Boyfriend and my sausage Dog Minnie.

9. What is the craziest thing you’ve done?

I did a freefall skydive last year. I did it to raise some money for a charity really close to my heart. “Ups and Downs” – they are a charity that support children and families with Downs Syndrome in the south west. They have been absolutely amazing with my younger sister over the years and without their support she wouldn’t be the gorgeous young lady she is now.

10. Do you do your chores? (Asked by my boyfriend, as I’m writing this rather than doing the washing up.)

They always get done – they just might be postponed slightly due to distractions ;).

Here are my nominations for blogs that I have really enjoyed reading.

Think Naturally

Beauty By The Bunny

Makeup by Amy Perrone

My Questions for you are;

1. What is your dream holiday destination?

2. If you could be a Disney character which one would you be?

3. If you had to choose one meal to eat for the rest of your life what would it be?

4. What do you see yourself doing in the next 20 years?

5. What inspired you to start blogging?

6. Cat or Dog?

7. What is your guiltiest pleasure?

8. Where is your favorite place to be?

9. What is your most prized possession?

10. What was your favorite blog post that you have written? (link please?)

Thank you for taking part and don’t forget to share the blogger love by letting your nominations know you have nominated them :).

Decopatch!

Decopatching is a brilliant hobby and a great thing to get your children involved with.

You can decopatch pretty much anything and I love love love the finished look.

Any of you thinking what on earth am I talking about and what is decopatch?

Well …

Decopatch is a paper craft using a specific type of paper and glues. I guess you could say it is similar to paper mache but a lot more modern and prettier to look at.
You use patterned or plain papers to create a collage effect over any type of object.
I’ve taken to giving bottles and jars a new look but you can buy plain mache shapes and objects to decorate.

Here is a mache heart that I started one evening.
